Great results with skin rejuvenation using Platelet Rich Plasma

We have been receiving really positive feedback from our clients who are undergoing the REGEN Platelet Rich Plasma treatment to improve their skin texture and tone, especially for the treatment of fine lines around the eyes. PRP, or Regen, is a collagen stimulating therapy and is ideal for treating ageing skin on the face, neck, eyes and décolletage.  The good news about this treatment is that you grow your own collagen to thicken up your skin and improve its texture and tone which means it is in for the long haul and doesn’t biodegrade.

It is a simple and safe procedure which involves taking a blood sample and spinning it down in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelet rich plasma. We extract and process it on site at our clinic. This is then injected into the desired areas of the skin over a series of just 2-3 treatments. This same technique has previously been used with success in the treatment of burns, orthopaedics and to accelerate wound healing. You will see results after a month and it continues to improve for many months after.

To enhance the effect of the rejuvenation, we can administer a volumising dermal filler to lift the cheeks, which also decreases the depth of the lines around the mouth and nose.

As we age, we have a tendency to break down collagen and elastin, so top up treatments are recommended every year or two to slow down the ageing process.

Are You Needle Phobic?

OK I’ll admit it, I have been a total wimp about getting treatments on myself!  A great opportunity presented to me a few weeks ago where I was handed samples of a new topical anaesthetic cream and asked to assess it’s effectiveness.

The best way to do this I proposed was to try comparing our existing cream (cream 1) to the new cream (cream 2).  In order to do this I had cream 1 applied to the right half of my upper face and cream 2 applied to the left half of my upper face.  Having done this and judging that my entire upper face was feeling a bit numb I felt the best way to truely test it was to puncture the skin!  Then I figured if I was going to this extreme I should make good use of it so each puncture was to administer some Btox. Naturally this didn’t hurt a bit!  Very effective way to eliminate pain (even if it is pretty minor according to most reports).

Pity it took my face about 6 hours to feel normal again…So now I have gorgeous wrinkle free skin on my forehead, no smile lines and no frown lines!  My question now is should we offer a pain free service for wimps like me for Btox, the same as we use for lip enhancement and facial fillers?

Laser Hair Removal – Fighting The Signs of PCOS and Hirsutism

Interesting case… I was working in my General Practice today and met a lovely young lady with Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS).  She had done everything that had been asked of her – Was taking anti-Androgen oral contraceptive pill, taking Diabetes medications to help with the insulin insensitivity component of PCOS and had even lost 20Kg in weight.

Much to her annoyance the hirsuitism symptoms (that is dark hair in unwanted places eg on face, chin etc) had remained.  Miss YP was very happy to hear that laser treatment could provide effective hair removal even for her!  She has olive skin and was very worried about depigmentation side effects.  Luckily Cosmetic Image Clinics has a very experienced laser operator and she will be able to help in this situation.  Miss YP was very excited and I am sure will be booking in to see Terri soon.

Concern: Rising Demand For Injecting Parties In The US

I was at a Tupperware Party the other night and the conversation ended up turning to cosmetic procedures (as it inevitably seems to when I am around!) Many of the ladies present had the great idea that the next party should be a Botox party.  This got me thinking… is this a viable idea… how could it be arranged?… what possible problems does this idea present?

This thinking took me back to my Law and Ethics class at Medical School… I know long time ago!  Anyway I realised that the party idea for Cosmetic Procedures is not a good idea at all!  I mean who can possibly give legal consent for a procedure when they have been drinking.  I am thinking court cases here …… “Yes Your Honour I had 3 cocktails to gain courage before agreeing to the injections, had I been sober I would never have gone ahead with it” …………. Very Scary!  Then I started thinking about the instructions that we give to our patients post injections:

1. Use the injected muscle areas 10 times every 10 minutes for the next 3 hours

2. No alcohol consumption tonight

3. No heavy exercise

4. No lying down for 4 hours post injection

5. Remove Make Up Gently, don’t rub areas that were injected

Realistically none of these would be followed after a party – you would be drinking, maybe dancing, flopping down tired or passed out afterwards and who would remember to do their exercises!

Hence I have come to the very reasonable conclusion that Medical Procedures (and yes all cosmetic injectables are Medical Procedures) should be carried out in an area which has been set up for safe practice.  That is my medical suite!  So I have to say No to Btox Parties of any description!
