Do you want a slimmer looking, more oval shape to your face instead of an angular looking jawline?

With the modern worlds focus on image and attractiveness people are striving to achieve the perceived perfect face shape. Many cultures prefer a feminine, oval or heart shaped face for a female. While the stereotypic ideal for a male is a classical strong angular, square jawline.

There are many treatments available to achieve a slimmer more oval looking face including surgical options such as the ‘V-line’ maxillofacial surgery. This procedure is self-explanatory, it reshapes the face from a U-shape to a V-shape using surgical methods.

If the thought of surgery is scary then there are other options available to you.

To achieve a visually slimmer jawline we offer a non-surgical medical treatment that can be tailored to your individual needs. This treatment is non-invasive with no downtime and minimal discomfort. It is also a less expensive option than surgery.

  • Non-surgical facial slimming or jawline reduction is a very common procedure in Asia and is becoming increasingly common within Australia.

This medical treatment is used to slim down the jawline by reducing the volume of the chewing muscle known as the masseter. (This is also performed to reduce teeth grinding, otherwise known as ‘bruxism’, and to help improve the pain of Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction).

Facial slimming, cheek slimming or jawline reduction can be performed by surgery however many people prefer to avoid a surgical approach if possible.

Facial slimming is much more common among people of Asian ancestry because of their predisposition to a more square and well-defined jawline due to a larger masseter muscle mass compared to people of European ancestry.

Facial slimming nonetheless is becoming popular world-wide as people become more aware of the availability of this medical procedure.

Facial slimming creates a more oval or more feminine shape to the face instead of a more square shaped or masculine type facial structure. An oval face is often seen as a characteristic of beauty and femininity. It also tends to make people look thinner despite there being no actual weight loss.

  • This procedure is commonly performed on women, especially amongst Asians to slim the facial features giving a more feminine facial structure. This is ideal for those who:

    Have a square shaped jawline

Have a more masculine like jawline

    Have chubby cheeks

Want to achieve the look of weight loss in the cheeks

    Decrease teeth grinding and ‘bruxism’

  • Most people commonly repeat the medical treatment four (4) months after the initial procedure. After this, it may be repeated twice a year or so on average. As with any cosmetic procedure the more recurrent the treatment, the longer the facial slimming procedure tends to last. Each person is individual and there is a bell curve of sensitivity, in other words, some people need less than others

  • After care instructions are negligible. You can lie down after the treatment and you can resume exercise within a few hours of treatment if required. Alcohol can be consumed soon after this procedure but may slightly increase the risk of bruising however this is a negligible concern with facial slimming. It is recommended to chew gum for an hour after the treatment as this utilises the muscles and assists the facial slimming procedure.

  • It usually takes six weeks to two months before the weakness or atrophy of the masseter muscle sets in which means the cosmetic affect can take that long before the slimming of the face begins to occur. This is a cosmetic procedure that takes patience.

  • Most patients experience minimal discomfort but this varies from person to person. It only takes a few minutes to complete the treatment and numbing cream is very rarely used because it is usually a very comfortable procedure. Sometimes a vibrating instrument can minimise any discomfort associated with the treatment, and also ice can be used as well.

  • Facial slimming has a potential risk of asymmetry and drooping, however this is uncommon. There is also a risk of narrowing of the smile however this is relatively uncommon in the treatment of facial slimming or jawline reduction.

Bruising may occur within approximately 25% of cases however it is easily managed, and is usually small and subsides relatively quickly.

  • Once your treatment has taken affect, it is common for others to ask whether you have lost weight. This is because your face will look slimmer than before, as shrinking of the jaw muscles will provide a slimmer look.

If you want to undergo this procedure, always choose an experienced doctor in a respected cosmetic or skin clinic to minimise the potential, however uncommon, risks of facial slimming which include mouth drooping or narrowing of the smile.
