Zimmer Shockwave Therapy

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common condition that affects millions of men worldwide, often causing frustration and a significant impact on their quality of life. Fortunately, advancements in medical technology have led to non-invasive treatments like shock wave therapy that can effectively address ED.

ED can be caused by a variety of factors, including age, underlying health conditions, psychological factors, and lifestyle choices. Traditional treatments include medications, vacuum erection devices, penile injections, and surgical implants. While these options can be effective for some, they may not be suitable or appealing to all individuals due to potential side effects, discomfort, or invasiveness!

Our Zimmer Shockwave treatment is a comfortable and non-invasive treatment that stimulates and improves blood flow to help treat erectile dysfunction at its core.

  • The primary mechanism behind shock wave therapy is the stimulation of neovascularisation, which means the formation of new blood vessels. In individuals with ED, reduced blood flow to the penis is a common issue, often due to factors like aging, the buildup of plaque in blood vessels, or underlying medical conditions.

The shock waves create controlled microtrauma to the penile tissue. This microtrauma triggers a natural healing response in the body, promoting the release of growth factors and cytokines. The growth factors and cytokines released as part of the healing response stimulate the production of new blood vessels (angiogenesis) in the penile tissue. These new blood vessels improve blood flow to the penis, leading to longer lasting and stronger erections.

  • During a shock wave therapy session, a specialised device delivers low-intensity shock waves to targeted areas of the penis. These shock waves are acoustic waves that carry energy.

It is a non invasive treatment and painless treatment.

  • Zimmer treatments take approx. 20 minutes. At Cosmetic Image Clinics we recommend undergoing 5-8 treatments for results that are noticeable and long lasting.

  • While the treatment is non-invasive, some patients may be concerned or nervous before attending their appointment. We’ve outlined what to expect on the day to put you at ease and prepare yourself for your treatment.

Consultation: The first step is a consultation with your nurse. Our practitioners are highly trained by Dr Ingrid Tall, who has specialised in cosmetic medicine and men’s health for over 20 years. During the consultation your medical history and specific ED concerns will be addressed. Your nurse will determine if shock wave therapy is a suitable option for you or outline a more detailed treatment plan.

Preparation: On the day of your treatment, you will be asked to come to the clinic with an empty bladder. This ensures that you are comfortable during the procedure.

Treatment Session: You will lie down on a treatment table, and a specialised device will be used to deliver low-intensity shock waves to the targeted areas of the penis. These waves are painless and non-invasive.

Duration: A typical treatment session takes about 20-30 minutes.

Number of Sessions: Depending on the severity of your ED, you may require several sessions, usually spaced out over several weeks. We recommend 5-8 sessions for optimal results.
