Skin Needling or skin needling is a procedure that uses fine needles using the ‘Dermapen™’, to penetrate the top layers of the skin, which tricks the skin into repairing itself. This procedure also greatly increases the absorption of vitamin serums which can be applied during the treatment for increased benefits. We also sell home rollers which increase the absorption of your usual skin care serums and therefore assists you in gaining superior benefit from your skin care regime.

Skin Needling or dermal rollering is an affordable procedure with minimal down time. It is effectively used for the treatment of acne scarring, chicken pox scars, surgical scars, stretch marks, minimising pore sizes, fine lines and wrinkles.

This procedure is often called ‘CIT’ and works by creating micro wounds and inflammation into the dermal tissue. This inflammatory response promotes the formation of healthy new cells.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Cosmetic Image Clinics is owned and operated by former AMA Qld President and TV Medical Journalist Dr Ingrid Tall who has over twenty years of experience in the cosmetic medicine industry. Our clinic is medically supervised and if experience, credibility and a ‘natural look’ is what you are looking for, then make Queensland’s largest cosmetic clinic, Cosmetic Image Clinics your preferred provider.

  • Skin or Dermal Rollering, otherwise known as ‘skin needling’ or ‘CIT’, is a procedure that uses fine, small, short acupuncture like needles to gently pierce the skin and create tiny zones of mild inflammation in the skin.

These minor dermal injuries lead to the stimulation of new cell formation via the normal skin repair mechanism, which enhances the tone, texture and appearance of the skin.

  • These channels in the skin cause keratinocytes and fibroblasts to produce numerous growth factors which in turn enhance the health and appearance of the skin.

Because the needle only penetrates through the epidermis and does not remove it, the epidermis is left intact and will rapidly heal.

At Cosmetic Image Clinics within Aquarius Health and Medispa, we have a preference for using the Dermapen™, a modern technological advance utilising an automatic vibrating skin needling device which improves clinical outcomes and lessens discomfort.

  • Dermal Rollering or skin needling using the Dermapen™ has been proven to:

    Smooth wrinkles and soften lines

    Improve skin texture

    Treat scars

    Improve depressed acne scarring

Improve the appearance of stretch marks

    Fill old surgical scars

    Improve chicken pox scars

It is an affordable procedure with minimal down time.

Dermal Rollering or skin needling works on the same principle as procedures such as deep chemical peels, dermabrasion, laser re-surfacing and fractional radio-frequency resurfacing (Fractora™) by creating a controlled inflammation in the skin which promotes tissue regeneration. However skin rollering is naturally a much more economical procedure usually than these procedures and the healing period is often shorter. It can be used on all areas of the face, neck and body.

  • A prescription strength numbing cream is applied half to one hour prior to your procedure which makes the medical grade skin rollering much more comfortable. We also offer other forms of pain relief so talk to our team upon arrival.

At Cosmetic Image Clinics we pride ourselves on making your experience as comfortable as possible.

  • Performed in a medical clinical setting to deliver optimal results, there is often significant redness on the day of the treatment. The next day, there can be some residual redness of the skin; however this can usually be well camouflaged with make-up. The skin will feel somewhat warm for a day or two and will also feel slightly rough.

Bruising is unusual but may occur in some individuals. Typically people resume their normal activities the day after their procedure.

  • To revitalize and rejuvenate your skin and also treat scarring, for the best results a Dermapen™ series of 4-6 treatments, spaced out at 2-4 week intervals is recommended.

  • You will notice in the short-term a softening and subtle fresh look to the skin; however the real results may take at least three months to begin. The long term results only begins at three months and will continue for approximately a year after treatment. For optimal results a course or series of treatments may be required depending on your skin. The results take time but they are worth waiting for.

  • Dermal Rollering or skin needling helps scarring by perforating and softening fibrous scar tissue. As a result the skin forms new collagen fibrils which help push the pitted scar tissue up to be more level with the surrounding skin creating a more even skin texture and tone.

  • Absolutely. Home rollering can also help the penetration of cosmeceutical skin care agents deeper into your skin to improve their impact on your skin health.

Unlike clinical needling where the needles are longer and penetrate to the dermal layer creating a micro-wound, home rollers only create micro channels into the surface of the skin (dead skin cells) which enhances the penetration of cosmeceutical serums.
