The treatment works in the lower layers of the skin in order to smooth and firm the treated areas of the face. This product is a unique substance that is gradually and naturally broken down by the body. It is immunologically inert, so that no allergy tests are necessary before beginning with treatment.

The number of treatments depends on many factors. Generally, two treatments are necessary to obtain the required results and may last up to 2 years. The results can differ depending on age, wrinkling and the type of procedure used.

You may feel some mild discomfort, however at Cosmetic Image Clinics we do everything within our power to make the procedure as comfortable as possible utilising ice, numbing cream, vibrating instruments, ‘cannulas’ to minimise discomfort instead of needles. You will be instructed to massage the treated areas of your face for the five days after the treatment. All you need is a minimum of five minutes, five times a day. This is very important for the first few days immediately after the treatment and should be continued for the full five days.

There is some facial swelling for the first three days after the treatment. Some patients find this flattering because it volumises the face and restores some youthful contours, but this will settle down within a few days. After the swelling completely resolves in two to three days, your face reverts back to its former appearance for quite a few weeks prior to any improvement being seen. It takes two to three months before the effects and cosmetic improvements are seen.

This can be quite frustrating for those who want immediate results. Some people opt for the instantaneous gratification of dermal fillers while waiting for the effects of their treatment to take effect.

You can return to normal activities after your treatment.

Some side effects of this treatment may include bleeding, tenderness or pain, redness, bruising, or swelling. Patients can use ice packs to ease any pain and swelling. These effects generally resolve in 2-6 days. Rarely, an allergic reaction can occur which can cause red, inflamed nodules. This has never to date been seen amongst Cosmetic Image Clinics’ clients however it is still a risk.

The most common long-term side effect is the occurrence of palpable nodules where excess collagen has formed. This is relatively common and occurs; it is estimated in studies, in just fewer than 10% of patients. The formation of these nodules is far less common now with improved techniques and products. The nodules generally are not a problem if they occur as long as they are not visible. Visible nodules are a rare and can be treated. The incidence of nodules is significantly increased if the treated areas are not massaged for two full weeks after treatment to help disperse the product evenly throughout the skin.
