Platelet Rich Plasma treatment, also known as the Vampire Facial, is a collagen stimulating therapy ideal for treating ageing skin on the face, neck, eyes, hands and décolletage. It can also be used in the treatment of hair loss and improves texture, tone, fine lines and wrinkles.
Usually, a series of three treatments are performed separated by approximately a month. Platelet Rich Plasma is also used in the treatment of burns, orthopaedics, ophthalmology and physiotherapy to accelerate wound healing.

After your treatment you will experience some swelling where the fluid has been injected under the skin. This will persist for approximately two days, occasionally longer.
Bruising is possible and this risk is increased after any blood thinning agents such as ibuprofen, aspirin, fish or krill oil or multivitamins are taken in the preceding two weeks.

Collagen stimulation is a process that usually takes about three months to begin. Occasionally, results begin a bit sooner at 6 weeks but often the results are only becoming noticeable by three months. Very little occurs before then.
The improvement in skin texture and tone continues for about 9 months to a year after the procedure.
The effects are long-lasting as it is your own collagen that is stimulated and not a bio-degradable dermal filler which will disappear over time.

It is recommended to have three treatments one month apart.
An annual or two yearly maintenance treatment may further enhance results and slow down the natural ongoing ageing process.

Numbing cream is applied approximately half an hour prior to the procedure. The small injections are quite comfortable. The needle is smaller than that commonly used by diabetics to inject their insulin.
To further minimise discomfort, a vibrating instrument is often applied to the area being treated which limits the transmission of pain impulses to the pain fibres. We often use ice as well to minimise discomfort. Taking two paracetamol tablets one hour prior to the procedure can also help. Avoid ibuprofen (Advil or Nurofen) as this can increase bruising.
For the needle phoebes we offer other forms of pain relief so talk to our staff upon arrival.

However, basic aftercare includes: for the first 24 hours avoid washing your face, applying makeup, or touching your skin, and stay away from exercise, saunas, and direct sun exposure; in the following days use only a gentle cleanser and bland moisturiser, avoid active ingredients like retinol or acids, wear sunscreen if outdoors, and allow any redness, peeling, or flaking to settle naturally without picking.
Most clients can return to their normal skincare routine within a week, and results improve gradually as collagen production increases.
